REGULATIONS UNDER THE JURY EXEMPTION ACT 1965.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Jury Exemption Act 1965.

Amendments of the Jury Exemption Regulations

Interpretation.

1. Regulation 2 of the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended by omitting paragraph (c) of sub-regulation (3.) and inserting in its stead the following paragraph:—

“(c) Norfolk Island;”.

Exemption of members of specified statutory bodies.

2. Regulation 3 of the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended by omitting paragraph (g) of sub-regulation (2.) and inserting in its stead the following paragraph:—

“(g) a member of the Public Service Board;”.

Exemption of certain officers in other States or Terrritories.

3. Regulation 9 of the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (3.) the word “federal” and inserting in its stead the word “Federal”; and

(b) by adding at the end thereof the following sub-regulation:—

“(5.) A person who—

(a) resides in the Territory of Papua or the Territory of New Guinea; and

(b) holds, or for the time being performs the duties of, an office of Assistant Director in the Department of Works and also performs duties in the Management Services Division of that Department.

is exempt from liability to serve as a juror—

(c) in Federal courts exercising jurisdiction in the Territory of Papua or the Territory of New Guinea; and

(d) in the courts of the Territory of Papua and New Guinea, being the Territory of Papua and the Territory of New Guinea governed in an administrative union in accordance with the provisions of the Papua and New Guinea Act 1949-1968.”.

Exemption of persons employed under certain Acts.

4. Regulation 10 of the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (1.) the word “federal” and inserting in its stead the word “Federal”; and

(b) by omitting from paragraph (c) of sub-regulation (3.) the word “federal” and inserting in its stead the word “Federal”.

First Schedule.

5.—(1.) Part 11, of the First Schedule to the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended by omitting from item 2 the word “Sergeant-at-Arms” and inserting in its stead the word “Serjeant-at-Arms”.

(2.) Part III. of the First Schedule to the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended by omitting item 1 and inserting in its stead the following item:—

(3.) Part XII. of the First Schedule to the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended by omitting items 1 and 2 and inserting in their stead the following items:—

(4.) Part XVI. of the First Schedule to the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended by omitting from item 7 the words “the Establishments Branch,”.

(5.) Part XX. of the First Schedule to the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended by omitting item 7 and inserting in its stead the following item:—

A person performing the duties of a Fruit Exports Standards Officer, however designated

Second Schedule.

6. The Second Schedule to the Jury Exemption Regulations is amended by omitting the heading to Part VI. and inserting in its stead the following heading:—

Part VI.—Persons employed under the Australian National Airlines Act 1945-1970”.
