REGULATIONS UNDER THE POST AND TELEGRAPH ACT 1901-1961.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Post and Telegraph Act 1901-1961.

AMENDMENTS OF THE TELEGRAPH REGULATIONS.†

Registered code addresses.

1. Regulation 21 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the words “1st April to 31st March” and inserting in their stead the words “the first day of September to the thirty-first day of August”;

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the words “1st April payment to 31st March” and inserting in their stead the words “the first day of September, payment to the thirty-first day of August”;

(c) by omitting from sub-regulation (3.) the words “31st March” and inserting in their stead the words “on the thirty-first day of August”; and

(d) by omitting from sub-regulation (11.) the words “31st March” and inserting in their stead the words “on the thirty-first day of August”,

Lettergrams (letter telegrams).

2. Regulation 62 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting sub-regulations (9.) and (10.) and inserting in their stead the following sub-regulations:—

“(9.) Subject to the next succeeding sub-regulation, the sender of a lettergram may prepay the cost of a reply by ordinary telegram or urgent telegram at the appropriate rate.

“(10.) A sender of a lettergram who wishes to prepay the cost of a reply in accordance with the last preceding sub-regulation shall insert the words ‘Reply Paid Ordinary’ or

‘Reply Paid Urgent’, as the case may be, before the address on the lettergram as a supplementary instruction and words inserted in accordance with this sub-regulation shall be counted and charged for as a part of the lettergram.”; and

(b) by omitting sub-regulations (12.), (13.) and (13a.) and inserting in their stead the following sub-regulation:—

“(12.) A lettergram shall be posted at the lettergram office of destination for delivery by the earliest post after the date of lodgment.”.

3. Regulation 72 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the words “1st April to 31st March” and inserting in their stead the words “the first day of September to the thirty-first day of August”;

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the words 31st March” and inserting in their stead the words “on the thirty-first day of August”; and

(c) by omitting from sub-regulation (3.) the words the 31st March” and inserting in their stead the words “on the thirty-first day of August”.

Application.

4.—(1.) The amendments made by regulations 1 and 3 of these Regulations apply in respect of the period or year from the first day of September, 1965, to or ending on the thirty-first day of August, 1966, and to each subsequent period or year commencing and ending on those days.

(2.) Notwithstanding the Telegraph Regulations, as amended by these Regulations, the fees payable on the registration of a code address for inland telegrams, or for international telegrams, in respect of the period commencing on the first day of April, 1965, and ending on the thirty-first day of August, 1965, are Two pounds one shilling and eight pence and Twelve shillings and six pence, respectively.
