REGULATIONS UNDER THE ALIENS ACT 1947-1959.*
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Aliens Act 1947-1959.

Amendments of the Aliens Regulations.†
Interpretation.
1. Regulation 3 of the Aliens Regulations is amended by adding at the end thereof the following sub-regulation:—
“(3.) For the purposes of these Regulations, the reference number of an alien is—
(a) in the case of an alien whose name is entered in a Register of Aliens before the date of commencement of the Aliens Act 1959, the number of the certificate of registration issued to the alien; and
(b) in the case of an alien whose name is entered in a Register of Aliens on or after the date of commencement of the Aliens Act 1959, the reference number notified to him at the time he applies to be registered under the Act.”.
2. Regulation 8 of the Aliens Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—
Alien to furnish photograph.
“8.—(1.) An alien shall, when making application to be registered as an alien under the Act, or at a time and place specified by an officer, furnish an unmounted photograph of himself, approximately two and a half inches by two inches in size, of head and shoulders only, taken full face, without hat and with plain background.
“(2.) Whenever it appears to an officer that the photograph furnished by an alien in accordance with the last preceding sub-regulation is not suitable as a means of identifying the alien, the officer may direct the alien to furnish a fresh photograph of himself of the size and description specified in the last preceding sub-regulation, and the alien shall comply with that direction.
Penalty: Fifty pounds or imprisonment for three months.”.

Notification of marriage.
3. Regulation 10 of the Aliens Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the words “his certificate of registration (if any) and”.
4. Regulation 11 of the Aliens Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—
Change of surname.
“11. An application by an alien for consent in pursuance of section 11 of the Act shall be in writing in accordance with Form 7, and shall be delivered or posted to the appropriate officer.”.
Repeal of regulations 14-19.
5. Regulations 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 of the Aliens Regulations are repealed.
Information regarding passengers and crews of ships and aircraft.
6. Regulation 20 of the Aliens Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (5.) the words “and certificate of registration number (if any) of any aliens who have joined” and inserting in their stead the words “and, if known to the master or pilot, the reference number of any alien who has joined”.
Form 5.
7. Form 5 in the Schedule to the Aliens Regulations is amended by omitting the words—
“No. of Certificate of Registration”
and inserting in their stead the words—
“Reference number”.
Form 6.
8. Form 6 in the Schedule to the Aliens Regulations is amended—
(a) by omitting the words “certificate of registration number” and inserting in their stead the words “reference number”; and
(b) by omitting the words—
“Certificate of registration number (if any) of spouse”
and inserting in their stead the words—
“Reference number (if any) of spouse”.
Form 7.
9. Form 7 in the Schedule to the Aliens Regulations is amended by omitting the words “certificate of registration number” and inserting in their stead the words “reference number”.
Repeal of Forms 8 and 9.
10. Forms 8 and 9 in the Schedule to the Aliens Regulations are repealed.
