REGULATION UNDER THE NATIONAL SECURITY ACT 1939-1940.*
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the National Security Act 1939-1940.

Amendment of National Security (Supplementary) Regulations. †
The National Security (Supplementary) Regulations are amended by adding at the end thereof the following regulation:—
Smoking, lighting matches, &c., on ships prohibited.
“81.—(1.) Notwithstanding anything in any law of the Commonwealth or of any State or Territory of the Commonwealth, a person shall not smoke, and shall not ignite a match, smokers’ lighter or other device ordinarily used for the purpose of igniting tobacco—
(a) in the hold of any ship; or
(b) in any place on board a ship where a notice prohibiting smoking is displayed.
“(2.) A person shall not, while in charge or control of—
(a) the loading or discharging of any ship;
(b) any person engaged in the loading or discharging of any ship; or
(c) any other operation on any ship,
permit or suffer the doing of any act prohibited by the last preceding sub-regulation.
“(3.) This regulation shall be administered by the Minister of State for Commerce.”.
